Dr. Vagia earned her medical degree from the University of Medicine of Tirana, Albania. She received the recognition of the medical school diploma by the Hellenic Academic Recognition and Information Center, Athens, Greece. Most recently, Dr. Vagia was an instructor at the Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University in Illinois. “We are thrilled that Dr. Vagia has joined the skilled team at the Jefferson Cary Cancer Center. She is an exceptional oncologist who has a passion not only for her specialty but also for her patients,” said Lisa Caron, Pines Chief Operating Officer. Dr. Vagia has had more than a dozen articles and abstracts published in peer review journals, has presented at oncology symposiums across the county, and has also been a co-investigator in several cancer related clinical trials. “Dr. Vagia and the team at Jefferson Cary Cancer Center can help build a model for rural cancer care, bringing the very best and latest advances in treatment to patient’s right here in Aroostook county,” says Pines Health Services and Cary Medical Center Chief Executive Officer, Kris Doody, RN. Also joining the Jefferson Cary Cancer Center on a more permanent basis is [[providers:hematology_oncology:harvey_zimbler_md|Dr. Harvey Zimbler]], who has been working as a LOCUM provider, and recently signed on to provide part-time hematology/oncology care. Dr. Zimbler is board certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Hematology. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois, and completed his residencies at Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York, NY; National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD; and the National Institute of Health, Bethesda, MD. Dr. Vagia, Dr. Zimbler and Josee Roman, FNP-C provide comprehensive care for our hematology and oncology patients.
